Moving in Glen Iris
Glen Iris is a large suburb that straddles two councils: the northern portion around Burke Rd and High St is in Boroondara, while the southern section crosses into Stonnington. The housing spans a wide range of eras — Victorian terraces and Federation bungalows close to the Hawthorn border, substantial interwar homes on the quieter streets, and post-war and more recent homes further south. Burke Rd runs through the suburb north-south, and tram route 72 and route 6 are both present in Glen Iris at different points of their corridors. Moves near the Burke Rd tram route in the Boroondara section of Glen Iris need the same tram clearway and permit planning as Camberwell or Hawthorn. In the Stonnington section further south, the access character changes: wider blocks and slightly more generous nature strips, but still worth checking the street loading situation ahead of the day.
Local access & logistics
Every Glen Iris move starts with the access, because that is what decides the truck, the crew and the timing. Here is what we plan around in Glen Iris:
- Glen Iris spans two council areas: north of a line is Boroondara (Hawthorn-Glen Iris border), south is Stonnington (Malvern-Glen Iris border).
- Burke Rd carries a tram service through the Boroondara section; clearway hours apply near the tram corridor.
- Housing spans Victorian through to post-war and recent; era of the home shapes the driveway width and internal access.
- Stonnington Council (for the southern section) has its own parking permit process, distinct from Boroondara; check which council your address falls under.
Send us the pickup and drop-off addresses with your quote and we'll tell you exactly how we'd handle your move, including parking, the carry and any lift or staircase that needs a plan.

Parking in Boroondara
Boroondara Council does not issue a dedicated removalist parking permit — the Tradesperson Permit explicitly excludes heavy vehicles such as pantechs. For an address near a tram clearway corridor, the practical options are: plan a 7am or 7:30am start to load before the morning clearway begins, park on the nearest cross-street that is not on the tram route, or call Boroondara Council directly on (03) 9278 4444 to discuss your specific address and date. Note that Boroondara tram clearway zones have been tow-away zones (not just fine zones) since December 2020. For residential streets away from tram routes, standard time-limited parking rules apply; a loading spot close to the front door is usually achievable on most residential blocks.
